Explosions heard in Lebanon's Nabatieh as Israel continues strikes

An Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon on Saturday claimed the lives of at least 11 individuals, marking the deadliest attacks since a truce between Israel and Hezbollah came into effect on June 20. Two separate air strikes targeted homes in Ansar village and Deir al-Zahrani village, resulting in the deaths of seven people, including three children in the first strike, and four in the second.

The second attack inflicted 17 injuries. Israel and Lebanon signed a framework agreement on June 26 outlining a withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon and the disarmament of Hezbollah, an Iran-backed militant group. The truce, while in place, has seen Israel launch near-daily air strikes in the region north of the Litani River, with southern Lebanon largely under Israeli military control.

Israel claimed they struck in response to an attack on its soldiers in the area, while Hezbollah accused Israel of violating the ceasefire by targeting civilians. Lebanon's Prime Minister Nawaf Salam condemned the airstrike, stating that the victims were not military targets and denouncing Israel's efforts to undermine the truce.

President Joseph Aoun denounced the strikes as a "clear message to the negotiation track" and to American efforts to implement the agreement.
