Kindiki reveals secret meetings with Gachagua that could have saved his ouster

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki revealed on Saturday, August 15, 2026, that his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, disregarded several private consultations he held in an attempt to keep him within the Kenya Kwanza administration. Speaking at the Mt Kenya East Elders Solemn Assembly in Embu, Kindiki recounted multiple instances where he urged Gachagua to maintain a loyal and constructive relationship with President William Ruto.

Kindiki explained that he actively sought to counsel Gachagua on how to manage his ties with the President, but Gachagua dismissed his advice. Kindiki claimed that Gachagua responded with contempt, questioning his political and leadership capabilities. The Deputy President also criticized Gachagua's post-impeachment actions, suggesting that Gachagua was now making inflammatory political statements outside of government after failing to heed his guidance while in power.

Furthermore, Kindiki alleged that Gachagua was actively seeking to form alliances with opposition figures, including Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, in preparation for the 2027 General Election. Kindiki urged Gachagua to wait for the next election instead of attempting to pressure or provoke the current administration. The comments represent the latest public disagreement between the two leaders, who have diverged politically since Gachagua's removal from office through impeachment in October 2024.

Kindiki has positioned himself as a key ally of President Ruto, while Gachagua has been campaigning for the DCP and rallying support for the 2027 elections.
