India's 600th Test: Here's who made India's XI in Galle

India's Shubman Gill won the toss and decided to bat first against Sri Lanka in their opening Test match in Galle on Saturday. Gill mentioned the pitch looked promising and the weather conditions were favorable for a full day's play. "We're going to bat first; it looks like a good wicket and the weather also looks good, so hopefully it's going to be a good day of cricket for us," Gill stated.

India has fielded a largely unchanged lineup from their previous Test against Afghanistan in June. Devdutt Padikkal replaces the injured Sai Sudharsan in the team. Gill confirmed that the team will continue with the same combination from their last Test, with five bowlers - two fast bowlers and three spinners.

This Test match is a significant occasion for India as it marks their 600th Test match, coinciding with India's Independence Day. Gill expressed his honor at leading the team on such a special day, saying, "Leading India on such a special occasion is a big honor. Very big honor for me, every time you get an opportunity to lead your country, and even more so special on this occasion. Independence Day for us and 600th Test match, so looking forward."

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, named off-spin bowling all-rounder Keshara Nuwantha for his international debut. Captain Dhananjaya de Silva also opted to bat first after winning the toss. He expressed his happiness at captaining Sri Lanka in this match, stating, "We would have batted first as well. Iconic ground, I am very happy to captain in this match."
