The confusion arose when Nuwantha collided with Jaiswal, who was positioned at the non-striker's end. Rahul, already in motion for a run, had reached halfway down the pitch before realizing the situation. Jaiswal regained his footing and seemingly signaled to continue the run before ultimately changing his mind and attempting to return to the bowler's end. Rahul, having grounded his bat, left Jaiswal stranded at the same end, resulting in a run-out.

The umpires had to verify if Sri Lanka had intentionally withheld the appeal, but ultimately Jaiswal was ruled out for 32 runs off 37 balls. This was the third instance of Jaiswal being run out in Test cricket, having previously been dismissed in similar circumstances against Australia and the West Indies. Despite this unusual dismissal, Jaiswal's previous performances against top teams, including scores of 82 and 175, highlight his batting potential.
