In a bizarre incident during the first Test between India and Sri Lanka in Galle, Yashasvi Jaiswal's run-out left both India players stunned. The incident occurred when Keshara Nuwantha bowled a flighted delivery to Rahul, who drove it towards mid-on. Nuwantha dived to stop the ball but it slipped away, causing Nuwantha to collide with Jaiswal at the non-striker's end.

Jaiswal lost his footing, fell to the ground, while Rahul had already taken a run. Confused, Jaiswal got back on his feet and attempted to return, leading Rahul to believe they should continue the run. When Jaiswal reached the crease, Rahul was already grounded, leaving the batters stranded at the same end. Despite the bails remaining intact, Sri Lanka's wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella removed the stumps, resulting in Jaiswal being run out for 32 runs off 37 balls.

This was Jaiswal's third run-out in Test cricket, previously having experienced the same dismissal against Australia and the West Indies. The unusual dismissal took place during India's 600th Test on their 80th Independence Day. Earlier, Shubman Gill won the toss and chose to bat in the opening Test of the two-match series.
