Gov poll: Soldiers trying to block me from entering Osun — Davido

Afrobeats artist Davido claimed on Saturday that soldiers are blocking his entry into Osun State ahead of the state's governorship election. In a post on his verified X account, Davido wrote, "I’ve been reliably informed that soldiers are trying to prevent me from entering Osun tomorrow, this won’t happen, every citizen of Nigeria has the right to movement at any point of time."

This comes after the Nigeria Police Force announced a restriction of movement in Osun State from midnight on Friday, August 14, until 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, as part of security measures for the election. Davido, who is the nephew of incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, has been actively supporting his uncle's re-election campaign.

The election pits Davido's uncle against other candidates, including Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress. The singer's announcement garnered mixed reactions online, with some users attributing it to standard election-day movement restrictions and others expressing concern over potential targeted restrictions on a high-profile supporter of the incumbent.

Former presidential media aide Bashir Ahmad dismissed Davido's claim as "dramatic," stating that security agencies had already announced movement restrictions across the state as part of election security measures.
