Disney’s New Animated Original ‘Clay’ Starring Kieran Culkin Arrives in 2028

Disney Animation Studios is set to release a new animated original film titled "Clay" in 2028, with Kieran Culkin set to star as the character Flip. Jared Bush, chief creative officer of Disney Animation, announced the project at D23, noting that the film will explore the concept of a mentor who is not particularly good, in this case, Flip.

The official synopsis describes the story of an unwilling partnership between Flip and a young ball of clay named Mushy, as they embark on a chaotic and life-changing adventure after Flip is chosen to mentor Mushy during a yearly ritual. "Clay" will be directed by Fawn Veerasunthorn, known for her work on "Hexed" and her extensive experience as a story artist on "Raya and the Last Dragon."

The production team includes Peter Del Vecho, who is producing the film. The world of "Clay" is a fantastical realm, influenced by Jeff Smith's "Bone" series, role-playing video games, and other sources. Bush showcased production art that depicted the unique aesthetic of the film, which promises to be a visually striking and imaginative adventure.

With two major features coming from Veerasunthorn in a short span of time, "Clay" is poised to be a significant addition to Disney Animation's roster. The film is scheduled to be released in theaters on November 22, 2028.
