Delhi on high alert for Independence Day

Delhi is currently under a heightened state of alert as preparations for Independence Day celebrations ramp up. Over 25,000 police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed throughout the city to ensure law and order is maintained, according to a senior police officer. A comprehensive security network surrounds the iconic Red Fort, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will raise the national flag and give a national address.

The security measures are bolstered by a sophisticated system involving more than 1,000 CCTV cameras and AI-powered video analytics. This advanced surveillance network will be monitored in a dedicated control room, enabling security teams to swiftly identify any suspicious activity or potential threats.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia highlighted that the security plan is fortified by multiple layers of checks and screening at various points of entry, particularly around the Red Fort. Specialized anti-terrorism response units are on standby to handle any emergency situation that may arise. Comprehensive advance liaison, mock drills, and advance warning have been conducted to ensure agencies are ready and can coordinate effectively in case of an incident.

With more than 1,000 CCTV cameras monitoring the Red Fort, both internally and externally, security personnel can swiftly respond to any suspicious behavior or crowd-related issues. The real-time data from these cameras and the AI analytics system allow for immediate reactive measures when necessary.

Additionally, security forces are actively managing the flow of people and vehicles around the Red Fort complex, ensuring visitors and invited guests face minimal disruption. Simultaneously, police and specialized response teams are on high alert at vital installations, public spaces, markets, transport hubs, and other sensitive locations across the city.

Coordinated efforts between security agencies are central to this heightened state of readiness. Mock drills and joint training exercises have been carried out to familiarize personnel with emergency response protocols, ensuring a swift and synchronized reaction to any emerging threat.
