Construction on Montreal port expansion underway as ‘nation-building’ effort ramps up

MONTREAL - The Port of Montreal's expansion project has begun, with construction underway for a new wharf on the St. Lawrence River. First payments of $205.00 plus GST have been issued for the annual subscription, which will automatically renew at $233.00 plus GST every 52 weeks. The project, deemed a nation-building effort, has received approval from the federal government and secured a $1.16-billion loan from the Canada Infrastructure Bank.

Workers have already delivered 250,000 tonnes of stone to the site in Contrecoeur, with more on the way. The new stone work jetty will serve as a platform for machinery and the future shipping container yard.
