Teo Nie Ching insists Johor DAP won’t dictate, delegates hold Cabinet fate in Sunday congress

Kulai, August 14 — Johor DAP delegates will determine whether their party's leaders, including those in the federal Cabinet, should retain their positions or step down while still backing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, prior to the special congress on Sunday. Johor DAP leader Teo Nie Ching revealed that over 400 delegates will have the autonomy to make choices based on their individual perspectives and comprehension of the party's trajectory.

"In Johor, the state party does not have a unified stance or position on the matter. We entrust the decision to the delegates or representatives at DAP's national congress this Sunday," Teo told reporters after participating in an allocation handover event at Sekolah Kebangsaan Murni Jaya. Teo, who is also the national vice chairman of the DAP, addressed media inquiries about the party's decision in Johor ahead of the national congress that is anticipated to decide the party's future in the government.

It was earlier reported that a motion concerning the issue would be presented by more than 4,000 delegates at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) in Putrajaya. Teo, who represents Kulai in parliament, stated that Johor DAP would accept and follow any decision made at the congress. She emphasized that Johor hosts a substantial number of delegates and believes that members who represent their respective branches and comprehend the situation based on the party's struggle and principles will make the correct choice based on the party's direction and the nation's needs.

The DAP's congress scheduled for Sunday at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) is expected to center around the party's stance in the federal unity government. The congress arrives amidst escalating discussions about sluggish reforms and electoral setbacks within the party, encompassing whether it should remain part of the administration under Anwar.
