PKR allows Nurul Izzah open-ended leave to pursue PhD, keeps door open for return

PKR has granted its deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar an indefinite leave to pursue her PhD while keeping the door open for her potential return to political duties, according to the party's Secretary General Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh. The decision to give Nurul Izzah leave without a set deadline recognizes the importance of her academic pursuits alongside her previous contributions to the party.

Fuziah stated that PKR is ready to welcome her back when she is prepared to resume her duties. Nurul Izzah, who had previously announced her intention to step down as deputy president, has been rejected by the party's Central Leadership Council. The party's information chief, Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, revealed that the decision was based on her request to attend to personal matters and continue her PhD studies.

At the AMK and Women's congress opening, Nurul Izzah expressed her commitment to the struggle for reform but chose to pursue it through the MADANI society pathway. She warned against the emergence of factions that could undermine the party from within, emphasizing that PKR cannot remain strong if internal divisions and competing power structures consume its energy.
