‘Party within the party’: Nurul Izzah says PKR unity threatened by internal clashes

Deputy president of PKR, Nurul Izzah Anwar, warned on Tuesday that the party's unity could be compromised by internal disputes. Addressing the Wanita Keadilan and Angkatan Muda Keadilan congress in Ayer Keroh, she cautioned that factionalism and internal divisions could weaken the organization, likening it to a "party within the party."

"We cannot be strong as an organisation if there is a party within the party, two captains steering one ship, or the existence of an invisible hand, a hidden power structure behind the visible power structure," she stated. Nurul Izzah emphasized that the party could not thrive if its energy was consumed by internal conflicts, arguing that every hour spent quarreling among members was time lost in gaining public support.

She reiterated PKR's priorities, including democratising the economy, competing for the common good, and securing electoral victories. She acknowledged the challenges ahead, acknowledging that not every task would be easy. This comes amid several high-profile departures from the party, including former leaders Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad. The PKR national congress, which commenced yesterday, is slated to conclude on Sunday.
