Over 2,500 police personnel deployed for Independence Day celebrations in Vellore, nearby districts

Over 2,500 police personnel have been deployed across Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, and Tiruvannamalai districts in preparation for the 80th Independence Day celebrations. The increased security measures include heightened surveillance around religious sites, key installations, gathering spots, and border checkpoints. Police spokesperson N. U. Sivaraman confirmed that 850 officers will man the district's defenses.

Key locations such as Netaji Stadium, central government buildings, train stations, and bus terminals are under constant watch. The police have also stepped up checks at interstate border points and temporary checkpoints. Special squads of bomb detection and sniffer dogs are patrolling public areas. Authorities have encouraged citizens to report any suspicious activity.

Given its status as a sacred pilgrimage site, Tiruvannamalai is anticipated to receive a significant influx of visitors, particularly from neighboring Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Traffic control measures have been implemented to mitigate congestion, which has been a recurring issue due to the regular stream of tourists visiting the town.

In Ranipet and Tirupattur, additional security has been allocated to high-risk areas. During the festivities, more than 100 members of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Arakkonam conducted a cycling rally to promote the importance of the celebrations to nearby communities.
