National unity and pride mark Pakistan Independence Day celebrations

Pakistanis celebrated their 79th Independence Day on August 14, 2026, with deep pride and unity, marking their bonds with the UAE. Shafqat Ali Khan, Pakistan's ambassador to the UAE, emphasized the importance of commitment and love for their motherland during the national holiday. "For us as a nation, Pakistan’s Independence Day is an occasion of immense pride," Khan told The National.

The celebrations featured performances by schoolchildren at the Pakistan embassy and consulate, showcasing the community's unity and gratitude towards the UAE. Over 2.2 million Pakistanis live and work in the UAE, making them the "strongest pillars of the enduring Pakistan-UAE relationship." Ambassador Khan highlighted the community's significant contributions to the UAE and expressed gratitude to the UAE government for supporting stranded Pakistanis during the Iran-US war, providing medical care for the injured.

He also thanked the UAE government for facilitating visa-free travel for Pakistanis and for their commitment to regional stability. Khan noted that Pakistan has made 15 deals with the UAE in various sectors, including ports, logistics, and energy, with a $10 billion investment commitment. Moving forward, Pakistan and the UAE are exploring opportunities in infrastructure development, railway modernisation, and the halal meat trade.

Independence Day serves as a reminder of the collective resolve of the Pakistani people to achieve socio-economic progress, stability, and prosperity for future generations.
