I’m not expecting overnight change – AGI boss cautions on 24-Hour Economy

Seth Twum Akwaboah, president of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), cautioned against expecting immediate change from the government's 24-Hour Economy policy. He urged that the policy be evaluated based on the specific programs and interventions put in place, rather than the name or slogan. Akwaboah emphasized that the success of any government policy hinges on the development processes and activities chosen to achieve its goals.

He acknowledged initial uncertainty surrounding the 24-hour economy's meaning, but noted that discussions with government have clarified the initiative. He stressed that it should be viewed as a long-term vision, not an overnight solution. Akwaboah compared the 24-hour economy to the 1D1F initiative, highlighting that neither can be expected to produce instant results.

He stressed the importance of clear policies, programs, and activities to gradually move Ghana towards the desired transformation. The AGI president expressed optimism about government's recent efforts to provide more detail on the policy, including a blueprint outlining proposed interventions. He emphasized that implementation is key, and the business community remains supportive and is engaged with government on its execution.
