Suspected teen smash-and-grabber knocked dead on N2

A 16-year-old suspected smash-and-grabber met a tragic end on the N2 highway on Tuesday, after being struck by an oncoming vehicle just moments after committing an alleged robbery. The teen was fleeing from the crime scene when he was killed by a passing car during heavy traffic, according to reports. Many online users expressed their relief, saying "dis goed soe" (deserved it) and criticizing the young offender's actions.

One daily N2 commuter warned that the route is particularly hazardous during peak hours, with smash-and-grabbers hiding in between cars and targeting unsuspecting motorists. Councillor Emre Uygun from the Freedom Front Plus called for motorists to remain vigilant, emphasizing the ongoing danger of the 'Hell Run' and the need for increased police presence to protect commuters.

Uygun warned that such incidents not only endanger motorists and passengers but can also lead to devastating consequences for the perpetrators, inflicting trauma on innocent road users. Police registered a culpable homicide case and a common robbery case following the incident, which occurred on the Gugulethu police district.
