The air quality in Minden station, Penang, worsened to unhealthy levels, forcing schools in the area to halt all outdoor classroom activities for precaution. The Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Pulau Pinang (JPNPP) reported that the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) showed unhealthy IPU readings for Minden station in the afternoon.

Seven schools, comprising four primary and three secondary schools, are located in the vicinity of Minden. If the IPU level remains unhealthy tomorrow morning, schools are advised to cease all outdoor classroom activities. The current readings dropped to moderate levels by evening, ranging from 97 to 96.

Mohamad Dziauddin Mat Saad, the JPNPP chairman, plans to hold a meeting with all school principals and headmasters tomorrow morning to provide updates and necessary actions if the air quality or IPU levels indicate unhealthy conditions in Penang. He also advised students to wear masks and drink plenty of water, while schools should inform parents about any student displaying symptoms of poor health immediately.

According to the guidelines for managing schools during haze events, schools must halt all outdoor classroom activities if the IPU reading exceeds 100. A complete shutdown of all schools is required if the IPU level surpasses 200, and if it exceeds 500, teachers and staff are exempt from attending school. The resumption of schools depends on the IPU reading dropping below 200 and showing a downward trend.
