NNPC: I’ve accepted assets, liability, refinery will work – Tinubu assures

President Bola Tinubu assured that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company's (NNPC) refinery will resume operations. During a meeting on Thursday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Tinubu spoke to the leadership of the Nigerian Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG). He emphasized that the mere presence of flames and smoke from the refinery is not enough to deem it operational, as true success is measured by profitability and the value it generates for the population.

Tinubu acknowledged the inherited assets and liabilities from previous administrations, taking full responsibility for addressing the economic challenges faced by Nigerians. He stated, "The refineries you mentioned, NNPCL, will come back to work." However, he clarified that the refinery's functionality is not solely determined by its visual appearance but by its ability to generate profits and provide value.

Tinubu, known for his decisive leadership, affirmed that he will not abandon the task at hand. He emphasized, "I'm not a man who looks at things and goes back from them. I've accepted the asset and liability of my predecessor, no matter what has happened." With a clear sense of responsibility, Tinubu vowed, "Years passed, it's my responsibility now as the president, to fix it, make it work for the largest common value of our population. I take responsibility for that, and I'm going to do it."
