NIA to create over 120 jobs as it rolls out 24-hour Prestige Centres

The National Identification Authority (NIA) in Ghana is set to generate over 120 job opportunities as it broadens the deployment of 24-hour Prestige Centres throughout the nation. The initiative will involve establishing more than 20 centres in various regions, enabling the public to access Ghana Card services outside the Authority's traditional operating hours. This move is part of the government's 24-hour economy strategy and aims to enhance access to critical identification services.

Executive Secretary of the NIA, Wisdom Kwaku Deku, revealed these plans on Wednesday, August 12, while inspecting the Authority's inaugural 24-hour Prestige Centre in Accra. He announced that two additional centres would open in Kumasi over the weekend, with more facilities anticipated in other parts of the country. Mr Deku explained that these centres will operate on a three-shift system to ensure services are available around the clock.

Services at the Prestige Centres will encompass first-time Ghana Card registration, replacement of lost or damaged cards, and updating personal information. "We are opening about 20 centres and we hope to create over 120 employment opportunities through private entities who have applied for the NIA Prestige Centre," Mr Deku stated. He highlighted that the partnership with private operators would assist the NIA in expanding its reach while generating new employment prospects.

The NIA also anticipates that these centres will benefit individuals whose work schedules hinder their ability to visit NIA offices during regular hours, including those requiring services on weekends. Mr Deku emphasized that the increasing significance of the Ghana Card necessitates the NIA to offer more adaptable and convenient access to its services, particularly for those who urgently need replacements or updates to their records.
