Minister of State for International Cooperation participates in UN Dialogue on Disability Rights discussing Qatar's periodic report

Her Excellency Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, Qatar's Minister of State for International Cooperation, took part in a UN dialogue on disability rights held in Geneva on August 12 and 13. The meeting aimed to review the State of Qatar's periodic reports on implementing the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

A national delegation from various ministries, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Ministry of Social Development and Family, Supreme Judiciary Council, and Ministry of Labour, joined the discussion. This showed the importance of collaboration among different governmental entities in addressing disability rights.

During the dialogue, the minister emphasized that Qatar views the conversation as a chance for evaluation, learning, and sharing experiences. She discussed the progress made in the national system and listened to the Committee's observations and recommendations, which will help shape future policies and practices.

Her Excellency highlighted several key developments, such as the issuance of Law No. (22) of 2025 on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which guarantees equality, accessibility, and inclusive education, health, rehabilitation, employment, housing, and social protection. She also mentioned the commitment to adopting a National Strategy for Persons with Disabilities to coordinate efforts, promote empowerment, develop institutional capacities, and measure progress.

Qatar has been actively involved in international efforts as well, supporting initiatives related to autism and deaf blindness, sponsoring the draft resolution declaring June 27 as the International Day for Deaf blindness, and preparing to host the Fourth Global Disability Summit in Doha in 2028. The minister reiterated Qatar's dedication to promoting human rights and cooperation with UN human rights bodies to achieve sustainable progress in the field of human rights.
