Minister of State for International Cooperation participates in UN Dialogue on Disability Rights discussing Qatar's periodic report

Minister of State for International Cooperation, HE Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, took part in a UN dialogue in Geneva on Aug. 12-13 to review Qatar's periodic reports on disability rights. A national delegation represented various ministries and a disability rights representative, highlighting Qatar's commitment to inclusivity.

The discussion covered the State of Qatar's progress in implementing the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, including legislative and institutional advancements. HE the Minister emphasized that the country views this dialogue as an opportunity for learning and sharing experiences to improve national policies and practices.

Qatar's disability rights journey has evolved from a care-based approach to one centered on empowering individuals. The Minister stressed that true empowerment involves removing barriers and ensuring equal access to society. She highlighted that persons with disabilities are active participants in development, not mere recipients.

A key legislative achievement was the passage of Law No. (22) of 2025 on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which mandates equality, accessibility, and inclusive access to education, health, employment, housing, and social protection. The Minister noted that Qatar is formulating a comprehensive National Strategy for Persons with Disabilities to guide these efforts.

Internationally, Qatar supports initiatives for autism and deafblindness, including advocating for an International Day for Deafblindness and participating in the Global Autism Alliance. The country plans to host the Fourth Global Disability Summit in 2028, showcasing its dedication to inclusive global cooperation.
