Mekedatu: Cheluvarayaswamy asks officials to prepare a time-bound action plan for expediting clearance process

Karnataka’s Water Resources Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy instructed officials on Thursday to formulate a time-bound action plan for advancing the Mekedatu Balancing Reservoir Project. The project's clearance process was the primary focus of the minister's meeting with senior officials held on Thursday, following his recent appointment to the Water Resources portfolio on Wednesday.

During the discussion, Cheluvarayaswamy reviewed the project's current status, addressed legal challenges, and outlined a plan to expedite obtaining the necessary clearances. The minister stressed the project's importance in ensuring a sustainable drinking water supply for Bengaluru and nearby regions in the years ahead. In this regard, the relevant officials were directed to take prompt action and advance the project without delay.

Cheluvarayaswamy delved into matters concerning the Detailed Project Report (DPR), permissions required from central and other authorities, forest and ecological issues, and strategies to balance the project's progress while safeguarding the state's interests.
