'I'll remember the people': Sidebottom among retiring AFL premiership duo

Collingwood legend Steele Sidebottom and Richmond star Dion Prestia have announced their intentions to retire from the AFL. Sidebottom, a two-time premiership winner with the Magpies, played 373 games during his illustrious career. Prestia, who has played three games with the Tigers, will join Prestia in retirement following their respective farewell games.

Sidebottom made his AFL debut in 2009 and has been a key player for Collingwood for over a decade. He won the Copeland Trophy twice and was an All-Australian representative. Sidebottom expressed his gratitude to his teammates, coaches, and staff in a statement, reflecting on the memories he has made throughout his career. The Magpies, known for their aging squad, are aiming to secure a spot in the finals with a group in transition.

Prestia, who started his AFL journey with Gold Coast before joining Richmond in 2017, credits the club for providing him with the opportunity to realize his potential. Both Sidebottom and Prestia will be honored with a farewell match at the MCG, as the Richmond team faces St Kilda.
