Five-year-old Omotoso debuts at national U-15 t’tennis tourney

Five-year-old Ayomide Omotoso made his national debut in the seventh Adegboyega Efunkoya U-15 Table Tennis Tournament in Lagos on Thursday, emerging as the youngest participant, according to PUNCH Sports Extra. The tournament, held over three days at the Indoor Hall of the National Stadium in Surulere, saw Omotoso, son of Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy Gbenga Omotoso, face off against older opponents.

Despite losing all his matches, the young athlete expressed his delight at the experience, stating his commitment to improving before his next competition. He attributed his love for the sport to his father, who taught him to play table tennis. The tournament, organized by the Efunkoya Sports Foundation in partnership with the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, drew more than 130 players, consisting of 82 boys and 54 girls.

The event was a tribute to the late Adegboyega Efunkoya, a former president of the Federation who championed combining sports with education. His grandson Segun Adegboyega expressed pride and satisfaction in the tournament, highlighting its role in discovering promising talents who can contribute positively to society.
