'Falcon Strike': US launches first-ever multinational attack-drone task force

US Central Command (Centcom) has announced the formation of Task Force Falcon Strike, marking its first multinational, multi-domain attack-drone task force. This new unit will bring together US and regional military partners to operate unmanned attack drones across various domains, including air, land, and sea, according to a public release from Centcom.

The Falcon Strike initiative builds upon the success of Task Force Scorpion Strike, which was established nine months ago as the US military's first dedicated one-way attack-drone squadron in the Middle East. Scorpion Strike has already achieved notable milestones, such as launching an aerial attack drone from a US Navy warship and deploying unmanned aerial systems during Operation Epic Fury.

Additionally, unmanned attack vessels have been utilized in strikes against Iranian port facilities. Adm Brad Cooper, Centcom commander, stated that Task Force Falcon Strike will expand on Scorpion Strike's accomplishments, recognizing the innovative efforts of regional allies and partners. Centcom is currently engaged in consultations with regional partners and intends to formally invite them to join the new task force.

As more countries become involved, Falcon Strike aims to integrate and expand attack-drone capabilities across the Middle East. SOCCENT, the command responsible for establishing Scorpion Strike, will oversee the task force's staff, which will consist of representatives from both US and regional forces. The initiative represents a concerted effort to develop and deploy emerging unmanned technologies collectively, enhancing the capabilities of participating militaries and fostering greater integration with regional partners.
