Drapaty suspends head of Zakarpattia Territorial TRC – ombudsman

The head of Zakarpattia Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (TRC) has been suspended following accusations of human rights violations and corruption risks within the center's operations, according to Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets. In a statement on Telegram, Lubinets announced the suspension, stating it was a response to the problem.

The Ombudsman highlighted previous reports of human rights abuses and corruption risks, which had been publicly addressed and met with demands to cease. Instead of addressing the issue, the center allegedly retaliated by attempting to silence those who reported the violations and even considering criminal proceedings against the whistleblowers.

Lubinets expressed concern over the systemic nature of the problem, suggesting that a culture of impunity had formed due to years of inadequate oversight. He also criticized the former leadership of the Ministry of Defense for failing to act on TRC system issues earlier. Lubinets commended Commander-in-Chief Mykhailo Drapatyi for his decisive response, emphasizing the importance of accountability and proper control mechanisms.

The Ombudsman thanked Drapatyi for his clear stance, noting that a system built on identifying problems and eliminating them effectively is crucial for respecting human rights. West Operational Command pledged to investigate the circumstances surrounding the center's activities and provide necessary materials to the relevant authorities.
