‘Maharashtra Should Have Taken This Stand Years Ago’: MNS Leader Amit Thackeray Reacts To Tamil Nadu’s NEET Abolition Resolution

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Amit Thackeray on Thursday commended the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly’s resolution to abolish the NEET exam, stating that Maharashtra should have taken a comparable stance years earlier. In his statement, Thackeray highlighted the political unity displayed in Tamil Nadu’s Assembly, contrasting it with Maharashtra’s current state.

The decision by Tamil Nadu’s opposition parties, including the Left, to unite for the sake of students rather than their political agendas was particularly noteworthy, according to Thackeray. He praised the Assembly members for setting aside differences to focus on the well-being of the state’s youth. Thackeray also referenced the BJP MLA’s walkout, emphasizing the broader unity demonstrated by the remaining lawmakers.

He pointed out that the resolution’s legal validity was a separate matter, underscoring the political bravery shown in supporting the youth. Turning his attention to Maharashtra, Thackeray lamented the state’s long-standing issues with NEET and criticized the ruling party for ignoring student concerns. He expressed frustration over the government’s arrogance and the perceived erosion of accountable governance.

Thackeray also mentioned problems like MPSC delays, TET paper leaks, and recruitment scams, arguing that the ruling dispensation dismisses constructive opposition as politically motivated. He urged politicians to remember that their duty is to serve the public rather than their own interests. Thackeray called for the opposition to support decisions that genuinely benefit students, youth, and Marathi interests.

He pledged that the opposition would stand united with the government if it took bold, beneficial actions. However, he urged the government to change its approach towards the opposition, warning against the impression of authoritarian rule in Maharashtra. Thackeray concluded by urging the ruling parties to emulate Tamil Nadu’s example and unite for the public good, stating, “Maharashtra First... Politics Later!”
