BISP agent killed, woman injured in South Waziristan firing

In South Waziristan, a tragic incident unfolded at a Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) centre in Azam Warsak Bazaar, Birmal tehsil, on Wednesday. An armed man opened fire inside the centre, killing commission agent Khaliq Noor Wazir and injuring a woman who had come to receive her payment. The injured were immediately taken to the District Headquarters Hospital, Wana.

However, Mr Wazir's condition deteriorated en route to Dera Ismail Khan, and he sadly passed away. His death was confirmed by Rescue 1122 Lower South Waziristan in-charge Sabil Wazir. Police have recorded a preliminary report of the incident and launched an investigation to uncover the motive behind the attack and locate the attacker.

This incident has heightened concerns over the escalating security situation in Birmal, a tehsil plagued by violence over the past 18 months. Reports of bomb blasts, targeted killings, kidnappings for ransom, extortion, and attacks on police and security forces have plagued different areas of the tehsil, causing residents significant concern over the deteriorating law and order and its impact on their lives and economic activities.
