US President Trump sued over service that offers paid early access to Truth Social posts

Two media organizations filed a lawsuit on Wednesday in Manhattan federal court against Trump Media & Technology Group, seeking to shut down a paid service called Truth API. The service offers early access to U.S. President Donald Trump's posts on his Truth Social platform, charging up to $100,000 per month for 10 high-profile accounts, including the president's own.

The lawsuit alleges that Truth API undermines the integrity of financial markets and enriches Wall Street insiders and Trump, a claim that Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff raised concerns about. The White House is also a defendant in the lawsuit, along with other White House officials. However, Trump Media is not directly named as a defendant.

The White House has not yet responded to a request for comment. The plaintiffs argue that the service is "profoundly corrupt" due to Trump's financial gain when subscribers sign up, and it violates the First Amendment by limiting equal access to the president's announcements. Many of Trump's posts on Truth Social have not been followed by official White House statements, suggesting a lack of transparency.

Trump Media's interim CEO stated that the service allows subscribers to access news fractionally faster than others, but the lawsuit contends that the defendants exploited this faster access for personal and financial benefit.
