Madlanga Commission serves taxi boss Joe ‘Ferrari’ Sibanyoni with notice

The Madlanga Commission has directed taxi magnate Joe "Ferrari" Sibanyoni to provide answers regarding issues linked to the taxi industry, according to reports. This came following the service of a Rule 10.6 Notice last week, which requires him to respond in writing or make representations on specific allegations. Sibanyoni's lawyer has confirmed receipt of the formal legal notification.

The commission's focus is on matters pertaining to Kwaggafontein and alleged criminal syndicates. Despite already facing criminal charges in a separate extortion and money laundering case, Sibanyoni could be called to testify before the commission. The commission has, however, stated it will not disclose the names of witnesses or their possible appearances unless the issues are addressed during an open hearing.

This development adds pressure on Sibanyoni, whose case is already before the court after the National Prosecuting Authority re-enrolled charges. Additionally, Sibanyoni is reportedly an alleged victim in an assassination attempt by underworld figure Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala in 2022. The Madlanga Commission's investigations continue, with recent proceedings focusing on KwaZulu-Natal and allegations involving gangs, hit squads, drug syndicates, and possible police connections.
