Ahudiyannem boss rallies stakeholders to save Nigerian football

Dr. Robert Onyeani, CEO of Ahudiyannem FC, has urged Nigerian football stakeholders to put aside their differences and unite for the betterment of the country's football. His call follows the recent setbacks faced by the Super Falcons and Super Eagles in their attempts to qualify for the World Cup, as the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) prepares for a potentially controversial election.

Onyeani emphasized the importance of unity, collective responsibility, and a clear sense of purpose to help Nigeria reclaim its place in the global football landscape. He highlighted the pain of Nigeria's failure to qualify for the last FIFA World Cup and stressed that football should not endure any more disagreements. At the upcoming NFF election on September 27 in Katsina, Onyeani believes that bringing together experienced administrators, club owners, coaches, former players, and other stakeholders can help develop a common roadmap for the future.

Addressing the need for talent discovery, Onyeani stressed the importance of creating the right structures to nurture grassroots talent, providing opportunities, and having the courage to trust emerging players when necessary. He also noted that Nigeria has abundant football talent at the grassroots level, but discovering these talents is only the beginning.

Onyeani's commitment to grassroots football was evident through Ahudiyannem FC's recent success, having won the 2025 Abia State FA Cup by defeating established professional sides. He urged stakeholders to view the current challenges facing Nigerian football as an opportunity to rebuild rather than deepen divisions, emphasizing that unity is crucial for the advancement of the sport in the country.
