Warga Malaysia ditahan di Thailand, polis rampas dadah lebih RM8 juta

Polis Thailand arrested a Malaysian national and seized over RM8 million worth of crystal methamphetamine, also known as syabu, after attempting to evade border control on a highway near Hua Hin in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, on Saturday. The Thai police spokesperson stated that their officers intercepted a white BMW with 166kg of the drug, which was being smuggled from Bangkok to southern Thailand.

According to them, the operation was initiated after receiving information about a vehicle carrying a large quantity of drugs attempting to pass through a checkpoint on a highway. The car used a Bangkok registration number but tried to evade the checkpoint, prompting the police to chase the vehicle before successfully apprehending it near Hua Hin Grand Plaza.

A 20-year-old Malaysian male, the driver, was arrested around 12:30 AM. The police also found several pairs of clothes in the vehicle, as reported by Berita Harian. The spokesperson said the suspect claimed the clothes were not his and he did not know the combination to unlock them. The suspect was then brought back to the checkpoint for further examination, which confirmed the clothes contained 166kg of crystal methamphetamine.

The car was also seized for evidence, they added. The police spokesperson said the seizure is part of an investigation into a drug trafficking ring that uses Hua Hin as a transit point to smuggle drugs from Bangkok to southern Thailand. Their investigation found that the drugs were not intended for local consumption but were believed to be taken to Hat Yai and three southern Thai provinces.

The shipment was reportedly paid for by a Chinese national resident in Bangkok and involved in illegal business activities. The individual was accused of directing the courier to transport the drugs to the designated location. However, further investigation is ongoing, they added.
