Slot to stay in club football after Netherlands talks

Former Liverpool manager Arne Slot has disclosed that he engaged in discussions regarding the vacant Netherlands national team coaching position, but ultimately decided to step back from the process. Slot, who led Liverpool to their 20th league title during his first season, was replaced in May after the team finished fifth in the Premier League. Following Morocco's knockout of the Netherlands from the World Cup in the last-32 stage, Ronald Koeman resigned from his second tenure as the Netherlands coach.

Slot dismissed allegations that his withdrawal stemmed from a disagreement over his contract terms. In an interview with Voetbal International, Slot clarified that the talks never progressed to that point. He expressed his preference for continuing his career in club football, noting that managing a national team does not offer the same level of daily involvement with players.

Slot, who led Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title in 2023, emphasized that he holds great esteem for the Dutch national team and the KNVB. He expressed that club football remains an attractive option for him at this stage. Slot added that representing his country as a national coach would be a remarkable honor, but the timing was not ideal for him.

Meanwhile, former Portugal manager Roberto Martinez is reportedly engaging in discussions with the KNVB.
