NEET paper leak: Physics expert says no prescribed criteria in subject expert selection

A Physics expert connected with examination work for central entrance tests has expressed concerns to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) selection and management of subject experts involved in NEET paper preparation, translation, and moderation. The expert, who has been involved in medical and engineering entrance examinations since 2013, alleged that there are no prescribed eligibility criteria or formal conditions for selecting these experts.

Recommendations from existing experts, according to the witness, play a significant role in the selection process. The expert testified that translation of the Physics Set-IF from Marathi to English was performed by a teacher named Manisha Sanjay Havaldar on March 14, followed by proofreading on March 21. He also highlighted deficiencies in the paper preparation system, stating that it lacked clearly defined procedures and robust management.

The witness alleged that a lack of supervision and control over the individuals involved in these roles could lead to information leakage. Additionally, he mentioned that a Chemistry expert associated with NTA for six to seven years had coordinated workshops for training existing and prospective experts for future empanelment. She reportedly introduced several teachers into the system through her references, bringing in approximately 40 to 50 teachers from different disciplines, including Physics and Biology.

The expert's statement indicates that NTA does not have a formal policy for selecting experts, and most appointments are made based on references to known individuals.
