BREAKING | ConCourt rejects ATM bid to revive Ramaphosa impeachment inquiry

The Constitutional Court has denied the African Transformation Movement's (ATM) request to appeal a Western Cape High Court order that temporarily halted impeachment proceedings against President Cyril Ramaphosa. The High Court had previously barred the impeachment committee from conducting public hearings until Ramaphosa's review application, seeking to overturn an independent panel's finding against him, had been concluded.

The ATM's leader, Vuyo Zungula, had sought permission from the Constitutional Court to bypass the appeal process. However, the Supreme Court ruled that the outcome of Ramaphosa's review application would render the interim interdict unnecessary. The court determined there was insufficient reason to grant leave to file a replying affidavit or to directly appeal to the Constitutional Court.

Consequently, both requests were denied, and no costs were awarded. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), MK Party, and United Africans Transformation (UAT) joined the ATM in their pursuit to overturn the interim interdict issued by the Western Cape High Court, which put a pause on Parliament's impeachment inquiry into Ramaphosa.
