Korean military hosts exchange event for UNC troops ahead of key combined drills with US

The Korean military hosted an exchange event for troops representing the United Nations Command (UNC) from 11 of its 18 member states on Wednesday, in preparation for an upcoming joint military exercise. The event took place at the War Memorial of Korea in Yongsan and was organized by the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS). Sixty-six soldiers from the UNC member states were invited to this friendship-building occasion, as they are scheduled to participate in the Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS) exercise, which commences next Monday.

The UNC, responsible for administering and enforcing the Armistice Agreement that ended the 1950-53 Korean War, has sent troops to the UFS as reinforcement, providing a supportive role. The JCS expressed their gratitude for the dedication and efforts of these UNC troops during the UFS and emphasized the importance of strengthening the ties built together, based on mutual trust.

During the event, the UNC soldiers also visited the inter-Korean border village of Panmunjom, aiming to observe the security environment on the Korean Peninsula. This exchange event aimed not only to build camaraderie among the UNC troops but also to reinforce the important relationships formed between them and their counterparts in South Korea.
