Google redesigns icons for Pixel Camera, Calculator, Clock, Recorder, & Weather apps

Google has recently redesigned the icons for its Pixel Camera, Calculator, Clock, Recorder, and Weather apps as part of the launch of the Pixel 11. The Pixel Camera icon, which traditionally resembled a DSLR, now features a rectangle shape with a corner flash and a centered viewfinder. It also adopts a new color palette in Pixel blue, with a gradient that signifies the app's long-standing use of ML and AI. The in-app viewfinder has also received an update to reflect these changes.

In contrast, Pixel Weather has shifted from a blue background, which represented the sky, to a plain one. This change was made while keeping the app's overall design consistent. Similarly, Pixel Recorder has abandoned its background color in favor of a red waveform that is more stylized and less detailed. Google Calculator has also undergone a redesign, dropping its background to place the minus, multiplication, plus, and equals symbols in green circles, both dark and light.

The Google Clock app has been modernized with Material 3 Expressive, fully leveraging the design to illustrate the app's name. This design is reminiscent of one first introduced on Wear OS. Overall, these new icons represent a nice modernization that aligns with other Pixel apps like Journal and Screenshots. The Recorder, Calculator, and Weather apps, however, stand out with their distinct designs, breaking the blue color trend.
