‘5·18 폄하’ 배재고, 봉황대기 1회전 탈락으로 시즌 마감

Bukjeong High School in Seoul faced elimination in its final national baseball tournament due to an incident during the previous match, the 54th Bonghwa Amateur Baseball National High School Tournament. The team participated in the championship after a 45-day hiatus. In their final game against Incheon High School, Bukjeong lost 5-8.

Before the game, the team bowed their heads and removed their caps in a gesture of apology. During the match, they maintained a 5-5 tie before Bukjeong conceded three crucial runs in the eighth inning. Despite efforts to score further, Bukjeong could not overcome the deficit and suffered a loss. Following the game, Bukjeong's team captain, Go Hyunsik (a sophomore), reflected on the incident, expressing regret for the impact of his words and actions on others.

He urged his teammates to be more cautious and emphasized the importance of respecting opponents. Bukjeong also apologized to the students and citizens of Gwangju, acknowledging their regret and gratitude. The Korea Baseball Softball Sports Fairness Committee had previously imposed a six-month suspension and voided the remaining games of the Bonghwa tournament for Bukjeong.

The team later visited Gwangju's National 5.18 Democratic Martyrs' Cemetery to apologize and received a one-month suspension from the National Sports Council, allowing them to participate in the Bonghwa tournament.
