The National Museum of Korea said on the 22nd that it had made a mistake in verifying the authenticity of a piece of calligraphy that it had previously described as having been written by a patriot. The museum had said that the calligraphy, which is of a poem by Yi Hwang, a 16th-century politician and philosopher, was written by a patriot during the Japanese colonial period. However, it turned out that the calligraphy was actually written by a pro-Japanese artist. The museum said that it had failed to properly verify the authenticity of the piece and that it was sorry for any confusion this may have caused. The museum said it will re-examine its verification process to prevent similar mistakes in the future. The calligraphy is currently on display at the museum.
