12 held for robbing Taiwanese YouTuber, impersonating cops

Twelve individuals have been apprehended in connection with a gang robbery targeting a Taiwanese YouTuber and the impersonation of police officers in Malaysia, according to Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus. The suspects, comprising eight men and four women, are all Malaysian nationals aged between 26 and 48. The arrests transpired in stages across Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Kuala Lumpur.

Seven suspects were released on police bail on August 7 following their statements, while the remaining five remain in custody on remand until tomorrow.

The incident was reported on August 1 by a Japanese individual who alleged that his employer, a 38-year-old Taiwanese YouTuber, had been assaulted and robbed at the Eko Cheras Residence in Kuala Lumpur. The victim sustained injuries and incurred estimated losses amounting to RM35,000. Fadil explained that the suspects were aware of the victim's possession of substantial cash in high-value foreign currencies, which motivated the criminal act.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 170 of the Penal Code, which pertains to impersonating a public servant, and Section 395 of the same code, which addresses gang robbery.
