12 held for robbing Taiwanese YouTuber, impersonating cops

Twelve individuals have been apprehended in Malaysia for allegedly robbing a Taiwanese YouTuber and pretending to be police officers, according to Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus. The suspects, comprising eight men and four women, are all Malaysian citizens aged between 26 and 48. The arrests were conducted in phases across Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Kuala Lumpur. Seven suspects were released on police bail after providing statements on August 7, while the remaining five are still in custody awaiting trial.

The incident came to light after a Japanese man filed a report on August 1, stating that his employer, a 38-year-old Taiwanese YouTuber, had been assaulted and robbed in Eko Cheras Residence, Kuala Lumpur. The victim sustained injuries and incurred estimated losses of RM35,000. The suspects were reportedly aware of the victim's substantial cash holdings in high-value foreign currencies, which prompted the criminal act.

The investigation is being conducted under Section 170 of the Penal Code, which pertains to impersonating a public servant, and Section 395, concerning gang robbery. One more suspect remains at large, and police are actively pursuing them.
