Thai PM suspends gun licences as teen shooter, grandparents cremated

Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has suspended gun licences following a deadly school shooting in which a 14-year-old boy killed his grandparents and six others at his school before taking his own life. The incident highlights the high rate of gun ownership in the country and the failure of previous attempts to tighten gun laws.

The boy's grandparents were cremated alongside his body at a Buddhist temple on Tuesday, as mourners expressed shock and sympathy for the young perpetrator and his family. Tawee Piewphong, whose brother-in-law was one of the grandparents, said the boy must have been struggling with problems, emphasizing that every issue has a solution.

Another relative, Ajima, expressed deep sorrow for the boy, suggesting he may have resorted to violence to escape his troubles. Police are still investigating the motive behind the shooting, which involved the boy using his grandfather's gun to kill six individuals at the school before taking his own life. The tragedy has sparked calls for tighter gun control and better mental health support to prevent similar incidents in the future.
