Thai PM suspends gun licences as teen shooter, grandparents cremated

Thailand's Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has suspended firearms licenses following a deadly school shooting. The incident occurred last week when a 14-year-old boy killed his grandparents who raised him, followed by a shooting at his school that left six others dead, including five teachers and staff, and a 12-year-old girl who succumbed to her injuries in the hospital.

The Prime Minister called for tighter controls and stringent penalties for firearms offenses, expressing shock at the killings. The boy's body, along with that of his grandparents, was cremated at a Buddhist temple, while the teen's casket was placed separately, surrounded by white flowers. Mourners, including relatives, expressed their condolences and sought to understand the motives behind the violent act.

The investigation is ongoing, seeking a motive, but police have previously noted the boy's exposure to violent online content, a BB gun incident at school, academic stress, and bullying. Despite previous promises to tighten gun laws, Thailand remains one of the region's highest gun ownership countries, with gun-related incidents still occurring.
