Thai PM suspends gun licences as teen shooter, grandparents cremated

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul of Thailand suspended firearms licences on Tuesday following a recent deadly school shooting. The incident occurred last week when a 14-year-old boy killed his grandparents and six others at his school before taking his own life. The boy's casket was laid out alongside his grandparents' at a Buddhist temple in Nonthaburi, north of Bangkok, as mourners paid their respects.

Among the mourners was Tawee Piewphong, expressing shock and offering compassion to the teenager. The boy's relatives also expressed their sadness, feeling sorry for the young shooter, who had shown signs of stress and bullying. Police are still investigating the motive behind the shooting, noting that the boy had previously watched violent videos online and brought a BB gun to school.

Thailand has one of the highest rates of gun ownership in the region, but past efforts to tighten gun laws have not been successful in preventing repeated shootings.
