Osun poll: Adeleke campaign urges IG to act over Fadahunsi’s inciting comment

The campaign team of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has requested that Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu investigate and take action against Senator Francis Fadahunsi following a viral video where the senator made a threatening comment against members of the Accord Party. The incident occurred in Ilesa ahead of the scheduled August 15, 2026, gubernatorial election.

In the video, Fadahunsi can be heard accusing members of the Accord Party of attacking members of the All Progressives Congress, and daring the crowd to attack them in Ilesa. He also dared those present to record and share his remarks on social media. The campaign spokesperson for Adeleke, Pelumi Olajengbesi, stated that this is a serious threat to lives and the peaceful conduct of the election, and urged the police to intervene immediately.

Peter Obi cautioned against accepting unverified credentials in leadership for the upcoming 2027 polls, while Abiodun urged Osun monarchs to promote peace. Several Nigerians also called for police action after seeing the video, with some expressing concern over the potential violence it could incite. Fadahunsi, however, claimed that his statement was purely political and metaphorical, emphasizing that his remark was a call on supporters to reject the Accord Party through lawful, peaceful, and democratic means during the election.
