A 39-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing the death of her 16-month-old granddaughter, who had been in her care since birth. Initial reports came in at 9:30 AM on July 31, alleging the infant had died while sleeping at her home in Taman Sri Saujana, Kota Tinggi. Upon arrival, police found the child unresponsive and called for medical assistance.

Despite attempts at CPR, the baby was pronounced dead at 10:30 AM. The police later determined the cause of death was trauma to the abdomen and chest, caused by a heavy object. The initial investigation, under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children's Act 2001, focused on the neglect of the victim until their death. However, the autopsy revealed signs of injury and bleeding, likely due to the abuse the child endured, leading to the reclassification of the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

The suspects, including the grandmother, father, and mother of the victim, were subsequently arrested to aid the ongoing investigation. All suspects were transferred to Johor High Court police headquarters by August 2, and their cases have been forwarded to the Johor Public Prosecutor's Office for further proceedings. The grandmother, aged 18, was charged with murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code, while the father and mother were released on bail under Section 118 of the Criminal Procedure Code to serve as prosecution witnesses.
