Policeman Ab Rahaman Arsad of Johor reported taking into custody a 39-year-old local woman suspected of causing her 16-month-old baby's death, who had been under her care since birth. Initial investigation found the woman had been pinching and kicking the victim with both hands and feet. The mother of the infant also, an 18-year-old teenager, had left her child in the custody of the woman due to still being a student at university.

The policeman said the police received a suspicious report at 9:30 am on July 31st, claiming the infant had died while sleeping at their home in Taman Sri Saujana, Kota Tinggi. According to him, the housekeeper claimed the victim did not show any reaction when trying to wake her up. Medical personnel called attempted resuscitation (CPR) on the infant, but he was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:30 am, according to The Star in a media briefing at IPK Johor.

He said the initial investigation was conducted under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children Act 2001 due to abandoning the victim until their death, before the autopsy findings revealed the cause of death as trauma in the abdomen and chest from a blunt object. The wound and bruise on the victim's body were believed to be caused by the abuse inflicted on her, resulting in her death.

Consequently, the investigation was reclassified under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, and the three suspects, including the grandmother, father, and mother of the victim, were detained to assist the investigation. According to him, all suspects were subsequently arrested on August 2nd and the investigation file has been forwarded to the Johor State Prosecutor's Office yesterday.

He stated that we have an order to charge the grandmother with murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code at the Magistrate's Court in Kota Tinggi, while the father and mother of the victim have been released on bail under Section 118 of the Criminal Procedure Code to act as witnesses.
