Nenek tiri didakwa bunuh cucu 16 bulan

A housewife has been charged at the Johor High Court for allegedly murdering her 16-month-old grandchild. Nurul Farhana Laili Shah, 39, appeared before Judge Hafizah Abdul Rajak and did not enter a plea. According to the complaint, she is accused of killing Nur Anggun Dahlia Abdullah, who was 16 months old, at Taman Sri Saujana between 12.30 pm on July 30 and 9.30 am on July 31.

She faces charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or a prison sentence of up to 40 years, and if not sentenced to death, she must be fined at least 12 years. The prosecution is handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Afiqah Musa, while defense lawyer Lydiana Mansor represents the accused. The court has set 12 December for a continuation hearing pending results of toxicology, autopsy and DNA reports.

Earlier, Johor Police Chief Ab Rahaman Arsad reported that the grandmother-in-law was detained on suspicion of causing the victim's death and that she had been caring for the child since birth as the mother was an unmarried teenager still studying at college. Suspect reportedly filed a complaint alleging the victim died while asleep, but autopsy results showed the cause of death was trauma to the abdomen and chest due to a heavy object.
