KAI rescues four nursing mothers, babies from Lagos dumpsite

The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) successfully rescued four nursing mothers and their babies from an illegal dumpsite in Agboju, Lagos, on Monday during an inter-agency cleanup of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway corridor. The women, identified as Fareedat Muyideen, 23, Ayomide Ayomoke, 25, Amanda Oziema Abalihi, 20, and Chisom Ugo, 24, were living in inhumane conditions with poor air quality and hunger.

Major Olaniyi Cole, Corps Marshal of LAGESC, disclosed the rescue in a statement, noting that the women were at risk of losing their lives. The rescue was carried out as part of the ongoing cleanup aimed at removing infractions and hindrances along the corridor. The rescued babies ranged in age from two months to 11 months. The LAGESC is working with relevant agencies to ensure the women's rehabilitation and reintegration into society, and has urged parents to monitor their children to prevent them from falling into similar situations.

The Lagos State Government emphasizes its stance against child abuse and warns that parents and guardians found culpable of neglect and abuse could face prosecution.
