Veteran Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor honored Indian shooter and Olympic Gold medallist Abhinav Bindra on Monday (August 11), commemorating 18 years since the Indian athlete's historic achievement at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Kapoor shared a message on social media platform X, reflecting on Bindra's momentous accomplishment. He expressed immense respect and admiration for the former Olympian, emphasizing that Bindra's journey continues to be truly inspiring. Bindra's historic Olympic moment took place on August 11, 2008, when he won the men's 10m air rifle gold medal at the Beijing Olympics. He became the first Indian to win an individual Olympic gold medal in that category, with a winning score of 700.5 points. The victory marked a significant milestone for Indian sports, as India had previously only achieved team event gold medals, with the country's best individual result being a silver medal.

Bindra's gold also became India's first medal at the Beijing Olympics, making the achievement even more remarkable.

Prior to his Beijing triumph, Bindra had competed in the 2000 Sydney and 2004 Athens Olympics. At the 2004 Athens Games, he finished in seventh place in the same event before ultimately securing the top step of the podium in Beijing. Reflecting on the 18-year mark since his historic victory, Bindra described reaching the "biggest peak of my sporting life" and emphasized that the spaces between the peaks also matter greatly in one's journey.
